The new Extender EF 2x III can multiply a lens’ focal length^# by a factor of 2x, gearing up professionals and advanced amateurs to reach out further and shoot distant subjects without the bulky burden.

The Extender EF 2x III is constructed with five lens groups of nine elements. With the new optical design, chromatic aberration and color blurring around the subject edges commonly caused by magnification can be minimized. It is also made specially to bring out the best of the upcoming L-series super telephoto lenses like EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II USM and EF 400mm f/2.8L IS II USM, from outer design to optical compatibility, each and every part of the Extender is manufactured to complement telephoto shooting with longer reach and take image quality to a new level.

The Extender is built with a microcomputer^{^} to enhance the transmission of focusing, metering and ID information among camera body, lens and extender. When combined with the upcoming L-series super telephoto lenses, the Extender enables higher autofocus accuracy compared to previous generations, ensuring users achieve perfectly sharp shots, even when capturing moving subjects.

Built with users’ feedback in mind, the Extender has been developed with exceptional built quality. By improving the lens lock pin and lens mount stopper pin with extra endurance, as well as a stronger support of seven screws on the camera side mount, a robust structure is achieved. Also, the foremost and rearmost lens surfaces of these extenders are treated with a Fluorine Coating which is highly oil-and water-repellent, so grease or water stains can be cleaned easily with a soft dry cloth, no solvents needed. What is more, with an excellent dust and drip resistance▲, the Extender ensures the best possible image quality in extreme shooting conditions.
