Features

This ultra-telephoto zoom lens covers a telephoto range up to 500mm and allows photographers to bring the subject close with short perspective. Sigmas original OS (Optical Stabilizer) function offers the equivalent of using a shutter speed approximately 4 stops faster. It is ideal for sports, wildlife and landscape photography with handheld shooting. Three SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements provide excellent correction for chromatic aberration. This lens is equipped with a rear focus system that minimises fluctuation of aberration caused by focusing. The super multi-layer lens coating reduces flare and ghosting. High image quality is assured throughout the entire zoom range.

The lens is equipped with Sigma's own unique OS (Optical Stabilizer) function. This function uses two sensors inside the lens to detect vertical and horizontal movement of the camera and works by moving an optical image stabilizer lens group to effectively compensate for camera shake. It offers the use of shutter speeds approximately 4 stops slower. Mode 1 is ideal for general photography, and Mode 2 is effective on moving subject such as motor sports etc. For Sony and Pentax mount, the built-in OS function of this lens can be used even if the camera body is equipped with an anti-shake function. As compensation for camera shake is visible in the view finder, the photographer can easily check for accurate focus and ensure there is no subject movement.

The OS (Optical Stabilizer) function provides stable images though the viewfinder and enables the photographer to easily determine the composition with the narrow angle of view. A removable tripod socket (TS-31) is included, which is convenient for handheld photography.

This lens has a minimum focusing distance of 220cm (86.6”) throughout the entire zoom range.  It is convenient for taking close-up pictures.  It is possible to enjoy taking close up pictures of small or large subjects.
